Count Luchino Nefaria, often shortened to Count Nefaria, is a recurring villain in Marvel Comics. He first appeared in The Avengers #13 (February 1965). Nefaria is a wealthy and powerful Italian nobleman with a deep-seated hatred for superheroes, particularly the Avengers.
Initially, Nefaria relied on his considerable wealth and scientific resources to challenge his foes. He funded and equipped various criminal organizations and employed super-powered henchmen. His ambition was to conquer the world and establish himself as its ruler.
Nefaria later underwent a process that augmented his body with the powers of several superhumans: Living Laser (energy projection), Power Man (super strength), and Whirlwind (super speed).
